Star Wars Gangsta Rap

Speaking of Star Wars, I know this is kind of OFN, but it’s been updated and still makes me laugh.

C-3PO:
“Oh… my… goodness gracious me.
I’m a gay man’s golden fantasy.
Programmed for Homo-ecstacy…
10 million forms of gay positioning.
For my golden shower you must pay a fee…
but R2-D2 gives it up for free.”

Yes, I’m an immature child.

Since All We Do Is Post Star Wars Stuff…

In keeping with our Star Wars theme over the weekend (the 30th Anniversary of the greatest film of all time is on Friday - check back then for our thoughts and remembrances as part of the great Star Wars Blog-a-thon), here are some images of the toys Kenner rejected from the Lucasfilm merchandising department from MCmoran.org via Filmrot. I can’t figure out why they were rejected; I’d love to play with the force for a little while in my backyard…

Motley Crue Rules!

Motley Crue I guess this is movie news since I believe Paris Hilton has been in at least one thing that could kinda be considered a movie. Motley Crue has decided to throw their might in getting Paris Hilton to serve her whole sentence for Drinking and Driving. I normally don’t care about this type of stuff but it just amuses the hell out of me so here is what the Crue have to say about Hilton.

Why is the NY Times wasting space talking about Paris Hilton’s petition to keep her out of jail for drunk driving…twice! Join Nikki Sixx, The Exies and other artists in supporting real talent, not bitches like Paris.
Go to The Exies MySpace page, sign the petition to throw Paris in jail and tell the NY Times to support real artists, real musicians, real actors, not shitty porn stars.

Rambo IV Footage

This was actually released a few days ago, but I wanted to wait for a YouTube version to post. And here it is. There is no way in hell that this is an actual trailer for general audiences because of the violence, but it’s still damn cool footage. I’m not a huge Rambo fan. The first film explores him as a character very well. The rest are unbelievable, action-packed nonsense. Fun? Maybe. Well done films? Hardly.

So it’s difficult to say how this film will turn out, but it looks pretty damn violent and realistic. If it’s got some character and story depth to it, there could be something to this. I enjoyed Rocky Balboa (mp review) for what it was and I think Rambo 4 could be more of that. Check out the trailer below and leave your thoughts.

HD Fighting for Supremacy Over Blu-Ray

According to Showbizdata.com, Toshiba is planning a major price reduction and some special incentives in late May and throughout June. The story goes like this:

Toshiba intensified its high-definition-disk battle with Sony’s Blu-ray players by offering a month-long, instant $100 rebate on its own HD DVD players. The rebate brings down the price of a high-definition player to a record-low $299. In addition, Toshiba is offering to knock $100 off the price of any of its HDTV sets that are purchased with an HD DVD player. The company recently announced that buyers of its HD DVD players would also be able to select five free HDTV movies from a selection of fifteen. The promotion is set to launch on Sunday and continue until June 16.

I’m still not sold on the whole HD thing anyway, so I won’t be purchasing until there is a clear cut winner and when it will make a difference on my TV set anyway. But still, I think Toshiba sees that it is losing this war and this is one of their last ditch attempts at regaining some ground.

Star Wars TV Show

Once again, Cinema Fusion hooks us up with the news of the new Star Wars “cartoon” that is in production as we speak. The news is two-fold. One, Lucasfilm has released the first one-sheet advert for the series that shows us the general look of what the show will be like. And two, according to StarWars.com, it is announced that at Celebration IV in L.A., California, there will be a panel of producers and the director to give fans a “behind the scenes” look into what the show will offer us.

Sounds exciting. I enjoyed the animated series of a few years back that took place between episodes two and three. It was a little too kid friendly, but it pieced the films together nicely with some further insight into Grievous and other shallow characters from the film. I didn’t realize this is to be CG-animation. By the looks of the poster it sort of looks like a cross between the realism of films like Final Fantasy and the toonishness of Toy Story. Of course, that’s just the poster; so who knows what the final product will look like.

Transformers NEW Trailer

Guess I can’t run a movie site without posting this eh? You can see the new trailer for Transformers in…

Hi-Definition Quicktime
or the not as grand
WMV style HERE

Or here’s the YouTube version for your lazy ass…

Thanks to Hector over at Cinema Fusion for the news and thanks to TheMovieBox for the various versions and download links (there are many more hi and med and lo res if you care to follow the link).

So thoughts? My initial reaction is that it’s about time we get to see some actual transforming of the players involved. Starscream (I think that’s the Jet) looks pretty damn cool I have to admit. I think this will be a good time to be sure and likely one of the best of the big budget, SFX blockbusters this summer. I’m not expecting much and my anticipation is fairly minimal. Still, I do look forward to seeing what Michael Bay has done here. Judging by this new trailer, we’re probably in for a treat.

Now Leave Voice Comments!

If you have the time and a microphone, you can now attach upto a 30 second voice comment in the comments section of any post. It seems to work fine for me (I tested it and you can listen to an example in the comments section below).

Some instructions:

1) IMPORTANT - You have to include at least SOME text to attach the audio to your comment (don’t know why, but whatever). You can write a novel if you wish, or just type “audio” or your name or something.
2) In the comment area, just click on “Insert Audio Comment”
3) A java applet (neat little lady bug walking animation thingy) will appear.
4) Click record and you’ll see the counter start - start talking into your mic (speak fairly loudly and clearly)
5) Click “Stop” when you’re done with your comment.
6) Click “ATTACH AUDIO” - this is the part that takes a bit of time (a percentage indicator goes to tell you how far along you are in your upload)
7) Click “SUBMIT COMMENT”
8) Sit back in the knowledge that your voice will be heard by nearly 5 whole people in the next week. Wow!

Some requirements:

- Hi-speed internet service (not really a requirement, but with my DSL line it took about 2 minutes to upload a 30 second clip).
- A microphone. Go figure.
- Some clicking of “yes” and “run control” buttons. The first time I did this a pop-up came up and asked me if I wanted to run some active-x controls or whatever. Just click yes and it should work fine. You shouldn’t have to do that ever again I don’t think.
- Some patience. When you click record or post, it may seem like nothing is happening, but it is just thinking. Give it a second and something will work.
- If it doesn’t work for you, don’t email me. I likely have no idea what to do or how to fix it. I’m shocked I got it to work so easily as it is. However, if this is seriously messing up your computer maybe it isn’t something I want active on our blog quite yet, so let me know if that’s the case (andrew@moviepatron.com)
- 30 seconds are free to record and upload. I think there is a way to pay for more time if you want to; but I don’t think it would be worth it.

That’s it. If you meet all those minor requirements, give it a whirl. Aside from the patience part, this is far easier than typing out ideas. Just remember, once it’s there, the whole world will be able to hear it. Oh yeah, this isn’t a kid’s site, so you can pretty much say whatever you want, but I will delete anything that is overly harsh or I just deem not OK in my opinion (talking about raping Nazis would be an example of something that IS okay).

Have fun and give us your feedback on this new feature. So far I love it!

De Niro and Pacino in $60 Million Indie Thriller

De Niro and Pacino     Robert De Niro and Al Pacino are both under used in my opinion. They seem to be pigeon holed into close to the same type of characters always. I would love to see them each bridge out and do something truly different. Given that, I am still looking forward to Righteous Kill.

indieWire has news about this huge independent  movie, by huge I mean a $60 million dollar budget. The plot revolves around two cops (De Niro and Pacino) chasing after a serial killer. The best quote from the producers is:

If a studio put together this, it would be a $100 million [movie] but we’re doing it for sixty,” he said. “We believe the independent world can do it more effectively, more cost-effective and with a heart… We feel like we’re making history.

I don’t understand why any independent film would require $60 million but then again I have trouble understanding why the big blockbusters require $100+ million. No matter what though, it will be good to see both of them actually acting with each other for the majority of the movie as opposed to the limited shared screen time of Heat.

Timothy Olyphant as Hitman

Hitman     Okay, I just have to say I am not very interested in the upcoming Hitman movie. Video game movies generally suck and I just don’t see this one bucking the trend. The only thing that caught my eye on this is the fact that I enjoyed Timothy Olyphant in the HBO Deadwood series. The basic plot revolves around a hitman who is framed for some murder or something. It sounds like 99 other typical action movies where the good guy is framed and goes on a revenge trip.

Wong Kar-Wai’s My Blueberry Nights teaser trailer

My Blueberry Nights     2046 has been sitting on my shelf for a good long time. I know I should watch it but I just have not made the time. I also haven’t seen any other Wong Kar-Wai movies and I’m pretty sure I’m missing out because of it. Over at Cannes (which I would kill to be at right about now) the trailer for My Blueberry Nights was shown. You can check it over at firstshowing.net.

The trailer has me only mildly interested but what actually has me really interested is the use of color in most of the screen shots I’ve seen. Rope of Silicon has 10 shots and I find each one of them to be beautiful. I have a strange feeling that Wong Kar-Wai spends as much time on directing the actors as he does on light placement.

Link to live feed from Cannes Cam

From now until the 27th, The Cannes Film Festival will have a 24 hour live camera feed of all the happenings on the red carpet leading up to the Grand Théâtre Lumière at the Palais. During highlighted premieres, there will be commentary and interviews with IFC host Matt Singer.

Thanks to Mad about Movies for the news…

This is a damn cool feature that IFC is sponsoring. I still wish I had cable and the IFC, but this makes me happy enough. Head on over and catch all of my jealousy, which is The Cannes Film Festival.

New Cinecast Player - Episode 47

With the new BLOG upgrades, we are now able to implement a player for our podcast, or as we like to call them - Cinecasts. This is a new feature and we’re still struggling with all the ins and outs, but this should be a fully functional and user friendly way of getting the show each week. You can stream the show right here, or stream it through a pop-up to continue doing whatever you want with our show running in the background; or download the entire mp3 to your hard drive or mp3 playing device.

You can also leave comments about the show right here which is something I’ve wanted for a long time and haven’t quite figured out how to do… and now it’s here! And also introducing audio comments see THIS POST for instructions and help on audio commenting.

This whole thing will be tweaked here and there as we go along in the next few weeks, but I think this is a nice improvement/addition to our site that makes things that much easier for us and you. Leave your comments below if you’d like.

So without any further ado, let’s see what this thing looks and sounds like…

Rambo IV Pics

Current Mood:Cool emoticon Cool

Some new images I found over at If Its Movies of the new Rambo film. Now, does anyone actually think this movie will be good? I just re-watched each previous film in rapid succession a couple months ago to prepare myself for part 4 and reaquaint myself with John Rambo. I have to say, they’re pretty cheesy, but there’s definitely a cool factor in there and they end up just being pretty fun if you go with ti for what they are. Anyway, here are some images from the new film (don’t know if they’re legal or if they’re even real) - Stallone looks as buff and kick ass as ever.

Rambo 4

Rambo 4

I’m not overly excited about this film, in fact, not really at all. Still, I’ll probably see this on opening day if there’s nothing else big on that day. I think this could be fun. On the same par as Rocky Balboa (MoviePatron review) was I should think.

Just What is True Horror

Pan’s Labyrinth     Marina over at Mad About Movies just posted a very cool quote taken from a review of Pan’s Labyrinth (Movie Patron Review) by Zack Snyder (director of 300) that I just love. I actually consider most horror movies now days to be nothing more than gory action flicks. They get a small short term emotional response from loud noise with something jumping out or by simply throwing blood on the screen.

What is horror? It sure as hell isn’t any of the steaming tripe Hollywood has been feeding us lately. Horror is supposed to be about deeply felt terror and the revulsion that accompanies a hideous revelation. But we are currently eyeball-deep in the corpses of butchered Abercrombie-ad denizens we never cared about, who have been running shrilly through slasher scenarios we don’t believe.

One of my favorite horror movies is Stephen King’s The Shining. The reason it creeps me out is the novel that he is writing. I love the scene where his wife finds out just what is on the paper. It has nothing to do with Jack breaking through the door with the axe. It is the simple fact of how broken he has become due to the isolationism. If you ask me what was scary in any movies like Saw or Hostel I can’t tell you. The emotion is gone its been too long, but Jack’s book has been with me since the late 80s when I was finally old enough to see The Shining and I’m sure it will be with me for a long time to come.

My Take on The Fountain

The Fountain     I figured I’d have a bit of fun here and give everyone my take on what actually happened in The Fountain (Movie Patron Review). This is going to be spoiler heavy so I’m going to hide it away. Just click on the Spoiler link to read my thoughts. I do want to preface this by suggesting that everyone should go out and see this movie first before reading what I have to say. The Fountain is a very personal movie and it is one that I believe people should watch and think through for themeselves.

First off, I need to preface this with it has been a few months since I saw The Fountain in the theater. There were only 5 other people with me and none of them were my friends. When everyone left they did so in complete silence. It is now a few months later and I have just bought the DVD but I have not had a chance to watch it yet. I will not be able to go into specific scenes until after I watch the DVD so I hope that I can start a bit of discussion on the general story and the discussion in the comments can continue on with specifics after a second watching.

Fade to Black and White Version

Lady Vengeance     Oldboy is one of my favorite movies of all time. It often ends up as number one on my movie list. My opinion of Sympathy for Lady Vengeance is right up their with Oldboy. Both focus on revenge and violence but do so in a very different way. I just discovered that Lady Vengeance was released in two versions in theater over in Korea. Wikipedia has this to say about the different versions:

Two versions of the film exist, the standard version and the “Fade to Black and White version”. The latter version begins in full colour, but throughout the film the colour gradually fades until it is totally black and white at the end of the film. Park intended the colour fade to illustrate Lee Geum-ja’s progressively colder demeanour and her attempts to reach a stage of purity as she exacted her revenge. In conjunction with the camera technique of removing the colours, there is also a change in the environmental colours used in backgrounds, clothing etc. At the beginning of the film, the environments contain a lot of primary colours, whereas toward the end of the film pastel shades, blacks and whites are used. Lee wears a blue coat in the early part of the film, but this is replaced with a black leather coat at the end. The brightly coloured walls of the prison and Lee’s bedroom are replaced with the grey walls of the school.

I love the idea of this. If anyone knows where I can track down a region 1 DVD version of this please let me know where.

I’m Off to Buy Some DVDs

Fountain     Today at lunch I am off to buy both The Fountain (Movie Patron Review) and Pan’s Labyrinth (Movie Patron Review) . It has been a while since I’ve gone out to buy something specific. Usually I just pick up DVDs that are on sale or ones that catch my eye while I’m wandering.

Pan’s did fairly well in theater but Fountain sure bombed so I thought I’d just check in to see if anyone else was planning on buying both of these.

Exploitive Cannes Film Impounded

Cannes     Last Looks is going to be one of those movies that gets remembered for its notoriety as opposed to it being a good movie. ScreenHead has a story about the French Government impounding the film on its way to the Cannes Film Festival.

… “Last Looks” was stopped by French Customs and may not see the light of day, at least not at Cannes. Officials have quarantined a 35mm print of the controversial film, which director Nick Browns labels a “a disguised act of censorship”.

The movie covers the problems that occured during the filming of The Evil Eye.

The film apparently shows the actual deaths of actors and behind-the-camera crew members during the production of “The Evil Eye”, a low budget American indie horror flick that was filmed in the summer of 2006 among the Turkish and Greek Islands in the Mediterranean.

I’ve done some searching around but have not been able to find out much more about The Evil Eye nor Last Looks. Neither of them seem to have an IMDB page. I’m really open to most ideas for movies but this just seems a bit to exploitive to me.

Rogue is now War

I‘ve known about the Jet Li / Jason Statham movie Rogue for a while now. I actually like Jet Li’s The One. I thought it was a silly fun action movie with a few cool special effects and some pretty decent fight scenes. In The One Li and Statham pretty much ignored each other (at least physically). According to IGN (via Mad About Movies) it looks like Rogue has now been retitled to War. War (Rogue) has been set for release for a long time and it seemed to be in limbo. It finally has a release date of September 14th. I’m sure it won’t be a masterpiece of cinema but I’m sure it will be fun.
