The Shark is Still Working

A few weeks back I was listening to Kevin Smith’s SModcast (where they just talk about whatever - it’s really great) and he started talking about this Jaws documentary that he saw in which EVERYTHING is covered. A movie where they interview everyone still alive even remotely involved with the making of the film: from Spielberg to the guy who painted the original poster to the crew that let them use their boat for the movie. I missed what the movie was called or when I could see it, but he mentioned that he had sort of a “secret” copy that he was going to lend to his co-host so he could see it.

Well, now I just found the trailer for the film he was talking about (I think this is it). It’s called The Shark Still Works: The Impact and Legacy of Jaws. It has yet to find a distributor, but when it does, I’ll personally be checking this out. I’m not a huge fan of the Jaws phenomenon and I like it quite it bit. A without it, we’d probably not have a Spielberg library as extensive as we do. So anyway, here’s the trailer for the doc. I think it looks pretty cool.

Ah yes, now I see why Smith was hyping the film. He’s IN the damn thing. Well, still it looks pretty cool.

The Last Legion Trailer

My initial impressions are: meh. Looks like another Lord of the Rings meets 300 meets any other “epic” battle movie. Not surprising since the only thing the director has under his belt are old episodes of Hercules, Xena and Mortal Combat. Plus the narrator is overly cheesy and annoying. I kept waiting for it to be one of those fake trailers that is actually an advisment to turn off your cell phone.

The only thing that peaked my interest, from a guy’s perspective, was the hot, samurai chick played by Aishwarya Rai. Damn.

The 11th Hour

The 11th Hour poster

I don’t know if any of you have already heard of this film or came across the trailer but as I have just came across it recently I thought I’d post it. Here is the synopsis and the trailer (wow):

”A look at the state of the global environment including visionary and practical solutions for restoring the planet’s ecosystems.”

Trailer:

All I can say is “wow”. Even just the trailer for this film shocked me, even more than the one for An Inconvenient Truth did. I can’t wait to see this flick and at the same time am scared of what I will feel like after watching it.

What are your thoughts on the film?

The Dark is Rising Trailer

Maybe I’m in a cynical mood, but while watching this trailer I started to think that I was watching a combination of Harry Potter, Eragon, Golden Compass and any other trailer for a kid fantasy movie. Maybe I’m wrong but The Dark is Rising looks like generic fantasy.

I’ll let you decide though:

A Couple of Trailers for Today

I completely forgot about this trailer I saw before Transformers for The Bee Movie. It hardly shows anything from the movie, but it’s Spielberg and Seinfeld being funny. I thought it was great and totally convinced me to see the film that I wasn’t even mildly interested in before. I think it actually hit the web a long time ago, but I just saw it for the first time the other night. Anyway, check it out; I think you’ll find it entertaining: “I did not know that Steven and I’m thrilled for your success.”

The next one everyone has posted today, so we might as well too. It’s for Kevin Bacon’s Death Sentence. I have to admit it looks pretty good even if the story has sort of been done before. A guy gets pissed about injustice and goes to kill the bad guys. Also, is it me, or is this like the 10th trailer this year to utilize Muse in their film?

More Fred Claus

Quite a while ago I posted the Fred Claus teaser trailer and was pretty excited what with Hollywood’s sarcastic, know-it-all Vince Vaughn and Hollywood’s greatest current actor, Paul Giamatti as the Claus man himself. Their witty banter and nagging of one another got me chuckling and fairly excited (though admittedly I’m excited whenever I see Giamatti’s name attached to anything). Looks like The Break-Up, but instead of Jennifer Aniston, we have PG in a big red suit and a white beard: “You’ve already torn something internally in me.” Beautiful. Here is that teaser trailer:

BUT then a couple of days ago, I saw the new one sheet posters and nearly sobbed myself to sleep with how horrible they are and my anticipation of the film dropped. Now today, /film posts the NEW Fred Claus trailer, and I really have no idea what to think. Some of it is cringingly bad while some of it works pretty well.

Looks sort of along the same lines as Will Ferrell’s Elf - which I also thought was just average (has its moments, but for the most part is meh). I don’t know. Any thoughts? I’m just not sure what to comment about it. It’s Giamatti so I’m there no matter what. I just hope it’s not uber-stupid as it has the potential to be.

3:10 to Yuma Opening Early!

Originally scheduled to open on Oct 5th, Lions Gate has pushed 3:10 to Yuma ahead by a full month and will now see its wide release on Sept. 7th. According to Movieweb, the producers wanted to get Yuma in theaters before any other westerns this fall; specifically Brad Pitt’s The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Lionsgate films’ Tom Ortenberg said this:

”We certainly wanted to be the first Western in the marketplace. More importantly, in what is shaping up to be a very impressive and crowded field of upscale commercial motion pictures this fall, we wanted to be one of the first ones out, so that everything else will be measured against us.”

I’m not sure what Ortenberg has to do with Yuma. He’s a producer of various films, but I can’t find his name attached to Yuma anywhere. Still, he’s obviously in the know and has an obvious point. I find that when two movies of similar genre or storyline come out, most people seem to believe that in 90% of the cases, the one they saw first is the superior film.

Even though I’m usually adverse to remakes of already great movies, this one looks to be fantastic (admittedly I’m a sucker for contemporary westerns). If you’ve not seen the trailer, here it is. And remember, you can now see the film a full month earlier. Nice!

Cloverfield Trailer - IT’S BACK!

This is only for the people who are not going to see Transformers anytime soon. If you are save this trailer for the theatre. Otherwise here is the trailer for the project codenamed Cloverfield by J.J. Abrahms. Oh and just so you know it the reason it is a crappy pirated version of it is that the trailer is not being released on the web. The movie doesn’t have a title yet. Truthfully this is really cool viral marketing that is going to pay off big time in the end. Hopefully the movie is actually good.

ADMIN NOTE: In other news, why would Paramount NOT want people to see this? Why are they bullying other sites to take it down? They can’t bully me. Go after Google you dickheads. They’re the ones hosting it. I’d LOVE to get sued by Paramount. A) they can’t. B) No publicity is bad publicity. C) I have nothing they could sue me for.

Eastern Promises

Eastern Promises is the new, upcoming film by director David Cronenberg starring Naomi Watts, Viggo Mortensen and Vincent Cassel. Take a look at the synopsis and trailer below:

“The film follows the mysterious and ruthless Nikolai (Viggo Mortensen), who is tied to one of London’s most notorious organized crime families. His carefully maintained existence is jarred when he crosses paths with Anna (Naomi Watts), an innocent midwife trying to right a wrong, who accidentally uncovers potential evidence against the family. Now Nikolai must put into motion a harrowing chain of murder, deceit, and retribution.”

Trailer:

Now not being a fan of his last film A History of Violence (I don’t even want to get into how much I disliked that film) or of Viggo Mortensen (he normally annoys the hell out of me for reasons unknown) I should want to avoid this film with all my will. And yet my enormous liking for Naomi Watts and how much I was intrigued by the trailer I am really looking forward to this film a lot.

What are your thoughts on the film?

War

A new poster for the upcoming Jet Li and Jason Statham action movie War has just come online. Now for those of you who don’t know about the film below is a reminder of the synopsis, then below that is the poster (thanks to ComingSoon.net) and trailer. Enjoy:

“After his partner is killed by Rogue (Li), the infamous assassin who has recently set off a bloody crime war between two rival Asian mobs, FBI agent Jack Crawford (Statham) starts a deadly game of cat and mouse to settle the score.”

War poster

Trailer:

Now the action fan in me is absolutely dying to see this film. I am a massive Jason Statham fan (ever since I saw him in Snatch) and I am a pretty big Jet Li fan also. So to see these two literally face-off is very exciting for me. Now don’t get me wrong, this movie may in fact suck but I can tell right now that I am going to enjoy this film just because of the pairing. The main reason for this post, as I know this film was announced quite a while ago, is the new poster (shown above) that has just been released. Like always; what are your thoughts on the poster and the film in general?

Is This Real?

A shitty video-taped shot of “The Dark Knight” Trailer. It doesn’t show anything and the morons filming it can’t even hold the camera even close to still. But hey, here it is if you care…

I’d be more impressed if this were fake. The “directors” in that case made it seem like it was real by the crappy way they captured it. If it is real, at the very least, hold the bloody camera still!

The Brave One

A film which has been on my radar, ever since the gigantic Lost fan in me read that one of it’s stars Naveen Andrews (who plays Sayid on the show) is going to be starring in a movie during the long between-season break, is The Brave One. But Andrew’s character I have learned is fairly minor and in fact the lead is played by the hit-and-miss (for me) Jodie Foster. The film also co-stars one of the most talented actors working today (in my opinion), Terrence Howard, in a supporting role as a police officer. Check out the synopsis (thanks to ComingSoon.net), the poster and the trailer below:

“In the psychological thriller, opening September 14, New York radio host Erica Bain (Foster) has a life that she loves and a fiancé she adores. All of it is taken from her when a brutal attack leaves Erica badly wounded and her fiancé dead. Unable to move past the tragedy, Erica begins prowling the city streets at night to track down the men she holds responsible. Her dark pursuit of justice catches the public’s attention, and the city is riveted by her anonymous exploits. But with the NYPD desperate to find the culprit and a dogged police detective (Howard) hot on her trail, she must decide whether her quest for revenge is truly the right path, or if she is becoming the very thing she is trying to stop.”

The Brave One

Trailer:

Now my first thoughts of the trailer was that I am definitely looking forward to it, but I am not dying to see it. The trailer is done well enough but I have some gripes with the latter part of it and in particular the quick flashes and “in-and-outs” of action that you can (barely) see. I think this ultimately falls fault to the maker of the trailer and not the actual film itself. But I can see that there is something worth spending your time watching here.

Hmmm. Interesting.

Current Mood:Confused emoticon Confused & Mischievous emoticon Mischievous

In regards to last week’s Cinecast on Sicko, watch this trailer for the film. About one minute into the trailer, Michael Moore mentions that the US slips to #37 in the WHO’s rankings list, “just slightly ahead of Slovenia.” Notice which country is just UNDER Slovenia…

If you know about Moore’s newest piece of celluloid, the third act in the film demonstrates how great the health care in country #39 is and it’s a shame that The US can’t follow suit. There are some explanations I thought of to explain this discrepancy in the film, but I wanted to hear yours.

Interview Trailer

Steve Buscemi’s new directorial feature ‘Interview‘ is coming out soon. And I have no idea if the trailer has been out for a while but I personally have just come across it and thought I would share it with you all. Here is the synopsis and the trailer following it:

“The movie is a remake of the deceased Dutch director Theo Van Gogh. The movie will follow a top political journalist whose career is fading. First, he has a falling out with his editior, and then, against his will, he has to interview the country’s most popular soap actress.”

Now personally I can’t get enough of Steve Buscemi. He has been one of my favourite actors ever since I saw him in 1992’s Reservoir Dogs where he just blew me away. This film I think looks extremely interesting and unique and definitely worth a look in my eyes. I am a huge fan of Buscemi’s earlier directorial feature ‘Animal Factory’, which is highly underrated. I look forward to seeing this film but something tells me it won’t get wide release, sadly. What are your impressions of the trailer and the film in general?

3:10 to Yuma Trailer

Kurt passed on the link to me for the 3:10 to Yuma trailer. This movie looks like a totally bad ass western and seeing how it stars Christian Bale and Russel Crowe I’m sure were in for a seriously good movie. This one is for all those people who say that all remakes suck. Watch the trailer and just try to tell me this movie is going to suck. You can watch the embedded youtube trailer here or check out a bit higher quality version.

Wall-E

I‘m lucky enough to get to see the ONLY blockbuster film this summer that is a true original, (not a remake or a sequel) Ratatouille, two weeks early. Attached to that film apparently will be the newest Pixar idea called Wall-E. Apple has already released the trailer and although there isn’t much footage, the stuff that is there looks awesome. Johnny #5, meets Pixar? Works in my book; especially if Ratatouille is as fun as it looks. You can see the nice Quicktime version over at Apple.com. As soon as there are more versions available (YouTube), I’ll post them here asap. By the way, I really dig the sound of the robot’s voice at the end of this trailer. It’s my favorite part of the whole thing.

Wall-E still shot

Coens Newest

I‘m not a huge fan of France; but I think I may move there so I can go to the Cannes Film Festival each year and see this amazing stuff before everyone else (I JUST saw Wind that Shakes the Barley last month, which won at Cannes a year ago now).

Anyway, one of the films I am anxious to see, even more so now than Wong Kar-Wai’s film, is The Coen Brothers (Fargo, Lebowski, O Brother) newest effort, No Country for Old Men. This trailer was brought to my attention thanks to Cinema Fusion, and I can honestly say that this has maybe taken over as my most anticipated film of the year.

This is Joel and Ethan doing something dark and evil (closer to their earlier work like Blood Simple or Miller’s Crossing) instead of their recent fun stuff - i.e. Lebowski. Apparently being praised fairly well at Cannes, which this blog failed to cover properly, I am most excited about this movie.

The point of this post is that the trailer has been released online and I am most excited for this to get a theatrical release in North America SOON!

I’m not exactly sure what the premise is based on the trailer, but ever since The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, I am a Tommy Lee Jones fan. Also, this is strangely devoid (at least in the trailer) of any signature Coen actors (like Turturro, Stormare, Goodman, etc.). Throw in slowly growing in popularity actor Josh Brolin, and this looks fantastic. Check it out and leave your thoughts in the comment section below…

Joshua

Joshua movie poster

I just came across a new movie and trailer for that new movie on the net recently. That movie is called Joshua. The plot is as follows (thanks to About.com):

“ Joshua is the tale of Brad (Sam Rockwell) and Abby (Vera Farmiga) Cairn, perfect Manhattan parents in a perfect Manhattan apartment whose perfect life begins to crack after the birth of their second child Lily. Shortly after Lily arrives home, a dark side of prodigy son Joshua slowly begins to reveal itself.”

And the trailer:

Now to me the story screams “The Omen“. It has the same basic storyline - seemingly perfect husband and wife have seemingly perfect child but slowly he starts to show a dark side. But still I have taken kind of a shine to the movie after seeing the trailer, it does look like it could be kind of interesting. I am willing to give anything that has Sam Rockwell in it a chance. What are all you guys thoughts on the movie?
