“Tron” Sequel?

Not entirely sure what to make of this. At this point it’s just a guy thinking out loud. However, when the person is The Dude, I sit up and take notice. According to Bridges, the idea for a sequel to Tron will probably be pitched to him “pretty soon.” Through an interview with Collider, Bridges had this to say:

“But the reasons to do [Tron 2] and the reason I did that one (The original Tron) was because it was so innovative and I understand that they’ve got a whole new batch of stuff like that… innovations that they want to use on this so that could be kind of fun.”

Now, I actually own the original Tron on DVD. I bought it with excitement of reliving a speck from my childhood. Lightcycles! Needless to say, I was severely let down. The film does NOT hold up very well when sifted through the hands of time. It is appears fairly low budget and borders on atrocious. Still, at the time, it was extremely innovative and a really great idea for its storyline - remarkably ahead of its time for 1982.

So a sequel with today’s technology could be spectacular visually and there are infinite amounts of possibilities for a story what with the internet and hackers, wireless networks and viruses.

As long as they bring back all the originals (Flynn, Tron and of course the infamous MCP) I think if ever a story was ready for a sequel, Tron is it. What do you think? Is Tron 2.0 a good idea and was the first one as good or bad as you remember it being?

Possibilities of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer Feature Film

Buffy started as a fairly campy, albeit loved, film of the early 90s starring Kristy Swanson and Luke Perry. I remember the movie being pretty bad, though I haven’t seen it in ages. When a television spin-off was announced, I thought to myself, “seriously!? There were enough people who cared about that movie and it had enough of a story to base an entire series on?” Of course, this was before I knew who Joss (NOT Josh) Whedon was and what his brilliance is capable of.

I never checked out the show until about halfway through the second season. Then I caught another episode by chance. From there on out I was hooked. It’s campy, corny, bubblegummy and teenie bopper-ish… but it worked; and it worked well (nominated for Emmy’s and Golden Globes and countless other awards). The dialogue is just hip enough, the girls (mmm Charisma Carpenter) were hot enough, the characters were deep enough and the storyline was solid enough to get people really involved in the show and even become obsessive about it. Joss Whedon and Sarah Michelle Gellar breathed life into a character that I would’ve sworn would be unwatchable.

So the show lasted for 7 terrific seasons with FANTASTIC characters coming and leaving throughout and ended when it needed to and on a high note. So now the question is, should there be a feature film? Bloody Disgusting caught up with SMG and asked her what her thoughts would be on reprising the role of Buffy Summers:

“I have to be honest. That thought really scares me. Buffy was a movie and it didn’t work because her story was longer than that.”, Gellar said. “This was about a girl that you had to get to know and it took so long to figure out how to crack the ending so that people weren’t upset. Of course I never say never, so I’m not saying no, but my fear would be to open something like that up again, to only end it again.

“Like Sex in the City is such a great ending, so I’m curious to see now how they’re going to open it up and how to shut it for us again. I feel like a show you love ends, you have like a mourning period, so do you open yourself up to that again, to wanting it but knowing it’s going to end? That whole thing worries me a little bit.”

For me? YES! I don’t care if it’s going to end. I would love to see Buffy back for another round of slaying action. If there’s a thirst for something out there (which I’m sure there is where Buffy is concerned) and cast and crew are interested, I say bring it back. Why does it have to be “shut off” again? Her “Sex and the City” reference is a perfect example. I think “X-Files” or even “Star Trek” are two other examples of franchises that work; even if they are “opened and closed” several times.

And I’m sorry, but you get Whedon behind this project as a writer and hire a good director, I’m sure Gellar’s fears would be put on the back burner in favor of some great exposure and a hefty paycheck. As would the rest of the cast I’m sure (Eliza Dushku, James Marsters, Allison Hannigan, Seth Green… the list is nearly endless). I just about guarantee a sell out at theaters across the country on opening night should this ever be brought to fruition. I know I’d be there.

Eliza Dushku is Hot

Eliza Dushku… mmmm.     Put her in anything and I’m bound to watch; just for the sheer fact that she makes my heart race a little faster than normal. After Buffy and some other fair to mediocre films, Dushku has sort of fallen off the map. But it looks like Joss Whedon is going to help change all that.

The newest idea out of the Whedon camp is for a television show called “Dollhouse,” in which a group of super agents go on special missions within each episode. Before their mission, their brains are programmed with special abilities, thought and memories that will aid them to accomplish whatever their goal might be. After completing their mission, they return to the Dollhouse where their memories are completely erased and new thoughts implanted.

Sounds like a terrific idea to me; and with Whedon behind the scenes and helping to write scripts and what not, I’m sure it will be comletely fantastic. The wrinkle in the storyline comes with Ms. Dushku who through the course of the show, apparently begins to remember and have self-awareness.

from filmstalker, Whedon had this to say:

“I sat down with [Eliza] to talk about her options, and acted all sage, saying things backwards like Yoda and laying out what I thought she should do. But in the course of doing it, I accidentally made one up. I told it to her, and she said, ‘That’s exactly what I want to do.’ ”

I love sci-fi stuff like this when it is done well and I have no doubts about this being done well. the only question is will the sheep that watch TV be able to grasp and then embrace something like this.

Giamatti is Dick

Paul Gimatti playing Dick     No secret around here that I love Paul Giamatti. I eagerly anticipate just about anything the man is involved in (though my enthusiasm for Fred Claus has waned due to the lame posters and newest trailer). Still, he’s usually terrific and I’ve learned that one of his newest projects will be to star in an adaptation of an unfinished Phillip K. Dick (Blade Runner, Scanner Darkly, Minority Report, Total Recall and many others) story.

The The Owl in Daylight, is a complicated tale that involves Ed Firmley, a B-movie composer, a race of aliens that have evolved without the ability to hear sounds, and our deeply held believes about art, happiness, and, oh yeah, heaven.

says Giamatti (who actually plays Dick in the film):

“There’s a guy writing a script right now… The idea is to take one of his last stories and put him as a character in the story. A lot of his stories were about reality getting bent around, so we’re trying to do that.”

“Well [Phillip K. Dick] was mentally ill in a lot of ways and he had lots of problems; he was married many times, was paranoid about a lot of things,” Giamatti explained. “Strange guy. He had a very interesting, complicated life.”

Sounds good to me. Giamatti playing Dick in an unfinished story written by Dick has excellence writte all over it. Thoughts? Feel free to let them be known below…

Viggo Hits “The Road”

Cormac McCarthy seems to be a really hot author right now for film adaptations. First, there was All the Pretty Horses (which I can’t believe I haven’t seen - my future wife, Penelope Cruz is in it for God’s sake!), No Country for Old Men has just hit the festival scene and will be released wide later this year, Ridley Scott will be directing Blood Meridian for a 2009 release and later that same year, if everything goes to plan, The Road will be getting a silver screen adaptation.

As one of the few books I’ve actually had time to sit down and read in the past six months, I can say that The Road will likely be a difficult story to put to film. But having said that, the best movies are the ones that are challenge to put together in my opinion. They may fall flat, but if they succeed, they usually work really well.

The story of The Road is that of a man and his young son travelling across a post-apocalyptic world, struggling to stay alive. Along the way, they must battle hunger, cold, the elements and of course the most dangerous of all: other humans.

Now I’m no critic of novels, but I have to say, the book seems fairly pointless. That’s not to say it’s boring, because it’s not. It has some strange sort of attraction that encourages you to keep reading, even though nothing terribly exciting is happening. It has one or two moments of legitamate tension and emotion; but for the most part, it explains nothing and has very little to actually say. However it is well written and again, for some strange reason that I can’t put my finger on, it’s compelling.

Anyway, Entertainment Weekly is reporting today that Viggo Mortensen is in talks to star as the father. If he officially signs on, the producers will start their search for a studio and distributor. But the best news of all is that John Hillcoat, director of last year’s MoviePatron top 10 list inductee, The Proposition is slated to direct. Here is what EW had to say…

…the producers, Nick Wechsler and Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz, were waiting to cast a star in the role of the father before seeking a distributor. But signing Mortensen may require some tricky scheduling since the actor, who currently stars in David Cronenberg’s Eastern Promises and is next set to head to New Mexico to shoot the Ed Harris-directed Appaloosa, recently told EW, ”I’m a busy person.”

So yeah, I think this is a do-able film with the right director. And since the film is 90% only two characters, the cast has to be just right as well. Viggo is a great start for that cast in my opinion. He is exactly the guy I can picture in this role… borderline perfect for it actually.

“Total Recall” Remake?

There has been talk lately of there possibly being a sequel to Verhoeven’s, 1990 movie Total Recall. This has just been sort of a rumor that I’ve heard smatterings of here and there. but this news I couldn’t not post. MovieHole is reporting that the new picture is likely going to be…. get ready for a surprise!… a remake!

Now, I generally enjoy Recall for what it is and find myself watching it again when I flip past it every damn weekend on one cable channel or another, but I don’t think it’s a cinematic classic by any stretch.

So since Arnie is obviously not going to be reprising the role of Quaid and now that The Weinsteins have total control of the rights and it seems that the movie public loves to pay for remakes, this sort of makes sense.

Surprisingly, I don’t totally hate the idea. I don’t necessarily think it’s a good idea either, but it could be an interesting idea with today’s newer effects and some big name stars and a competent director. I remember not completely understanding the entire premise of the film until about the third or fourth viewing (much like Vanilla Sky), so this means the script and plot thread are intelligent enough. If they somehow manage to keep the intrigue and psychological implications in a fascist future along with the action and gun play, it might actually turn out to be a fun time in the theater…. agreeably, it also has just as much potential to be a total train wreck.

they should remake this scene with Penelope Cruz

V

v.gifV     Probably my favorite mini-series of all time was “V”. For all you kids out there, a mini-series was a multi-evening movie that was usually a pretty special thing back when we only had 4 or 5 channels to choose from.

Anyway, “V” was a 4 or 5 night event in which aliens show up over planet earth and look remarkably like us. They promise us technology and medicine and a better way of life. But we soon find out that they’re really carnivorous reptilians and their real goal is to enslave humans and steal all of the water from our planet. A small band of resistance fighters catch on to the aliens’ plan and decide to strike back. Marc Singer (i.e. The Beastmaster) leads the pack. Along with Robert Englund, Faye Grant and the full awesomeness of Michael Ironside. It’s very similar to 1996 Independence Day (ID4)… or more accurately ID4 is similar to V. Since “V” was so awesome and was such a phenomenon, this is maybe partly why I like ID4 so much.

After the mini-series finale, there was a short lived TV series based on the same idea that totally reaked ass. The show was cancelled and the phenom died off. Over the years though, ideas and propositions for TV and films have bubbled up here and there, then die off just as quickly as they were conceived.

novel of V sequel     So now, almost 25 years later, Vic over at ScreenRant is reporting that a book is due to hit shelves in a couple of months entitled “V:The Second Generation” and is based off the ideas and scripts that sprang up from the aforementioned spin-off.

from ScreenRant:

The most interesting part? It remains listed as “currently being developed for TV” and, after contacting Kenneth Johnson, it appears there’s some truth in this. When asked whether a big-screen production or perhaps a straight-to-DVD release may be on the cards, Johnson confirmed “all options are open and we are pursuing them” but that straight-to-DVD is “unlikely” due to “the high production cost”.

Now first off, I am all about this. I’ve been waiting for V to return for many years and it sort of did in the way of ID4. But that was that. I have heard rumors of a sequel to ID4, but nothing has ever come to fruition. As much as I look foreward to this though, it won’t be as cool as it was when I was 8 and without badass Marc Singer and Michael Ironside, it just won’t be the same. Still, I’m itching to see how it works out. And on the other hand, who’s to say Singer and Ironside couldn’t return. They’re not that old. Of course, it will all depend on the substance and story arc of the novel I guess. I’ll be reading when this thing hits shelves on Nov. 7.

Ewan’s Least Favorite? Star Wars.

cut and paste job from worstpreviews.com:

Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi     They are some of the highest-grossing movies of all time, but Ewan McGregor regrets appearing in “Star Wars,” reports The Sun.

During a recent trip to a Scottish hospice, the father of a young patient suffering from an incurable condition, asked him about his best and worst film. In a very surprising answer, McGregor branded the sci-fi movies the worst work he has ever done.

Hamish Glasgow, whose three-year-old son Hamish suffers from rare Hoyeraal Hreidarsson, says: “Ewan was really down to earth. He was great with Cameron. He was really relaxed and you could tell he’s a really good dad. He said the favorite movie he’d done was ‘Trainspotting’ and the one he liked least was ‘Star Wars.’”

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Hmm. Not Down with Love, not Robots and not The Island; but Star Wars. Admittedly, The Phantom Menace was a pretty poor film, but the third installment (Revenge of the Sith) was pretty balls-out fun. Though the article doesn’t specify which Star Wars film he means specifically, I can only assume one of two things: either he means the entire trilogy or just part 1. But still, I’m surprised he doesn’t like it at all compared to some of his other works. Oh well, he was there and I wasn’t. PLus, to each his own I guess.

Depp in Sin City 2

Depp in Sin City 2?     Sin City was one of my favorites of 2005, certainly the most entertaining. I absoluetly loved it. With Sin City 2 on the way in 2009, I am very much anticipating it already. Along with the huge cast already on the bill, according to IMDb (which is notorious for getting it wrong quite often), including many of the actors from part 1, is rumored to be none other than Johnny Depp; who is, in my opinion, one of the top 3 actors of his generation. During a VH1 interview, director Robert Rodriguez had this to say:

“[Depp] was interested in doing the Jackie Boy character that Benicio [del Toro] played [in the first one], but he was doing that movie Libertine (MP review) in Europe and it just kept getting pushed and delayed and went right through our shooting schedule. But there is a better role for him in [’Hell and Back’]. I kept going, ‘Gosh, Jackie Boy is a small part, he could be really good [as Wallace].’ When he wasn’t available, I thought maybe it was meant to be.”

I don’t know (or can’t remember) who Wallace is, but this sounds good to me. With the already stellar cast (Clive Owen, Banderas, Rosario Dawson, Madsen, Trejo, Rourke, Powers Boothe) Depp should fit into Rodriquez’ and Frank Miller’s vision quite well I should think. Color me excited.

Rendezvous with Rama

Rendezvous with Rama book cover     I‘ve just learned that one of my favorite sci-fi books of all time is being made into a feature length film starring Moragan Freeman and tentatively directed by David Fincher (Fight Club, Zodiac).

Rendezvous with Rama is the story of a mysterious ship (nicknamed Rama) that enters our solar system out of the blue (or black, as the case is) and Earth happens to have a spacecraft close enough that it is able to make physical contact. The astronuats on board have just a few hours to investigate what is Rama and maybe where it came from and what secrets it may be hiding.

This is not an alien attack flick or a deadly space virus or apocalyptic sort of story. It is true science fiction that is meant to be wondrous and mysterious (much like the glory that is Carl Sagan’s Contact starring Jodie Foster).

Fincher could very well be a great fit for this film (I have no doubt that Freeman will be) and do hope the film makers don’t muck it up by making the movie more than it should be; i.e. a relatively quiet picture that should be nothing more than fascinating and beautiful. If ever a movie was made for an IMAX experience, Rendevous with Rama is it. If you’ve read the book, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

More Zoe Bell… and that’s a Good Thing.

Zoe Bell     Grindhouse was one of the most fun experiences I’ve had in a theater in a long time and will undoubtedly crack my top ten of the year come December. A big part of that success was the greatness that is Death Proof (MP review); the second in the two features enclosed within Grindhouse. And then, part of the fun of Death Proof, was the inclusion of a stunt woman playing herself in the movie.

Zoe Bell played Zoe, an adrenaline rush junkie who will do anything for a thrill. As someone who had never really acted before, she pulled off her lines and her acting as well as anyone else on screen and was not only a delight, but also a big surprise.

Today, I read good news over at Variety (via ObsessedwithFilm) that Bell has landed another role, this one in the leading lady position in an as of yet untitled film about Iraq war veterans.

from Variety:

Bell will play a U.S. soldier adrift after returning home from a tour of duty in Iraq who decides to help a young girl in trouble. The project is based on an original idea from Weber (producer) and screenwriter Sarah Thorpe (”Twisted”).

“This film is a big challenge for me, especially the American accent, which I have to work on,” New Zealand native Bell said in an interview. “But one thing is certain: I will be doing all my own stunts on the film.”

“When I saw Zoe in ‘Death Proof,’ I was immediately drawn to her ability and acting talent,” Weber said. “Her background and likability made her a perfect choice for our lead.”

I thought Bell was great in Death Proof and I look forward to see if she can pull off more great roles. This movie sound interesting at the very least. We’ll have to see what kind of budget it is given and who they get to direct; but as it stands now, I’m in.

The Incredible Hulk First Image

Thanks to worst previews, we get our first glimpse of what the new Hulk character will look like via a panel discussion at Comic-con. They also report over there that Edward Norton himself, who’ll be playing Bruce Banner in the film, actually wrote the screenplay for the film. I didn’t realize this until now. IMDb doesn’t make any mention of this, but they’ve been wrong before. With a great cast including William Hurt, Tim Blake Nelson and one of the more under-rated actors out there: Tim Roth, this should prove to be at least an interesting film to talk about and will most likely be way better than the attrocious Ang Lee vision of the Hulf from a few years back.

Feature Length Dark Shadows

Dark Shadows - Barnabus Collins     Back in college, during my vampire obsessive stage, I started renting the video tapes for the 60s/70s soap opera series entitled “Dark Shadows.” It wasn’t quite what I thought it would be. Kind of slow and boring… with just a bit of camp and cheese mixed in. I think now, however, I would be able to get more into it.

Anyway, I was reading over at worst previews that Johnny Depp plans to team up with Warner Brothers to develop a feature length movie version of the series. Apparently Depp has been “obsessed” with the show since it aired back in the day; especially with the vampire patriarch of the show, Barnabas Collins (pictured above).

from worstpreviews…

Over 1,225 episodes, “Dark Shadows” was a highly atmospheric, spooky soap that featured gothic horror staples like vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies. The show has a continuing rabid fan base that populates Dark Shadows Festival conventions. Numerous TV revivals of the series and pic adaptations have been attempted over the years but none with as high-wattage a star as Depp.

Depp     Yes, it wasa SOAP opera, but also had vampires and witches and the like. I’d now be interested in re-investing some time with the show if I can find it on DVD. This way, I’d have a much better frame of reference once the movie comes out (a deal was just recently struck with the show’s original creator - Dan Curtis - and WB).

     Anyone else watch this show?

Laz Alonzo on Avatar

Laz Alonso     Usually not too into talking about movie that are more than two years away, but this sounds interesting. Avatar has been mentioned and rumored about on the net over the past year or more, so I’ve stayed away from talking about it. But there’s one thing in this “inteview” that has me intrigued.

Laz Alonso, co-starring in the picture, got caught a screening of Captivity the other day by MTV reporters. Here’s a couple snippets of things he said:

“I had to sign something that swore me to secrecy; to be honest with you, I don’t know what I’m allowed to talk about or not — so just to be on the safe side, I ain’t saying jack. But it’s just a sci-fi movie that’s going to blow your socks off.”

From MTV.com:
This much we do know: Cameron loves to unveil new technology with his films. The filmmaker has already confirmed that the flick is being shot in 3-D and will combine live-action and computer-generated characters and environments. We also know they are filming in New Zealand and Hawaii; as well as the green-screen shoots in L.A.

More from Alonso:

“The technology that he’s using is something that hasn’t been done before, the way that he’s doing it. When you see guys like Marilyn Manson coming through, and Peter Jackson and Spielberg coming through to see what this new cutting-edge technology is, you know you really have something special going on. What we’re seeing right now as far as technology [in today’s blockbusters] is level one. What you’ll be seeing when this movie comes out is roughly like a level 20.”

Those are some bold statements. Of course actors of upcoming films always say stuff like this; but with Cameron at the helm (who hasn’t done anything for 12 years) it really has me intrigued as to what this is going to be. A 3-D film with Zoe Saldana - smokin!half live-action and half CGI sounds pretty wicked. Especially in space with aliens and what not - I’m pretty jazzed up. Sounds like a real fun treat and I have no problem with Cameron and trust him completely. From Aliens to Terminator 2 to The Abyss to Titanic, we know the guy can make some great movies and has a creativity level that goes though the roof. I’m officially interested.

Others in the cast include the stunning Zoe Saldana, Michael Biehn, Sigourney Weaver and Sam Worthington.

The Worst Idea of All Time?

Ace Ventura’s Kid?     Normally I try to not have preconceived opinions about movie ideas until I actually see them; normally. But sometimes I just can’t understand what the hell studios or producers are thinking. Case in point: another Ace Ventura flick. Might not sound like that bad of an idea right? Well it gets worse. moviehole (via /film) is reporting that the new flick is tentatively titled Ace Ventura Jr. and is starring Josh Flitter in the title role. If you haven’t a clue as to who that is (like I didn’t) think about the following titles in which he starred: License to Wed, Nancy Drew and Big Momma’s House 2. Sad.

I thought maybe they at least had a good director and scriptwriter on tap for this, but nope. the sciprtwriter has never done anything (according to IMDb) and the director is Steve Oedekerk who has done a bunch of garbage except for Kung Pow: Enter the Fist (yes, I like that movie once I understood what it was).

Anyway, how and why do the studios really think they’re going to make money off of this? There is no way in hell. Is it just me or is this one of the worst ideas in movie history? Ace Ventura 2 wasn’t even that good (same director BTW).

Transformers Prequel

Robots in disguise     Could it be that the next Transformers film to be unleashed will actually be a PREquel? It’s obvious this thing will turn into a franchise, but what I didn’t see coming would be that of a prequel. Over at Skewed & Reviewed, there’s an interview with Mark Ryan (the guy who voiced Bumblebee for one line) in which he talks about a the prequel.

S&R: Final question, have you heard anything about a sequel or been asked to be a part of future films?

Ryan: (Chuckles), funny you should say that so I will tell you what I can. I recently recorded more material for the DVD release of the film. It has to do with the Prequel that will set up the second film.

Ok wait a minute; now I’m confused. So it sort of sounds like there will be a bonus feature on the DVD that will be something of a prequel BEFORE the next movie comes out? His sentence doesn’t seem to make much sense to me. Am I reading it wrong or am I just stupid? Anyone know what this could mean?

If you’re not sure which character is Bumblebee (voived by Mark Ryan), here’s a picture of the hood to jog your memory:

Vernon Again?

Behind the Mask     David J. Stieve, the co-writer of Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (that movie we keep mentioning because its so damn good) was chatting with Icons of Fright and he had the following to say about a possible sequel:

“Obviously the focus of that or the metaphor involved there, as it happened with Nathan as an actor or Scott as a director, or me as a writer, it’s how do you handle that ‘freshman phenom/rookie of the year’ type thing!” Stieve poses. “That’s the symbolism at play; how does Leslie handle his success? And of course you have the whole genre-specific constructions and conventions of a horror sequel. There’s specific conventions involved with every killer that comes back. How the town reacts, who the people are that survive, and who fills what role coming around again…so there are all these very specific genre expectations for a sequel that are ripe for the picking but there’s obviously the metaphor of how does Leslie as the ‘artist’ handle his fame, does he handle it well, does he burn out too quick, keep himself in check, does he do it right? There’s a very rich soil to till from a storytelling standpoint.”

Now while I would love to see a sequel and while I hate how much of a limited run this hidden gem was given I just can’t see it happening unless it really does well on DVD. My hope is that it does do well and I’m going to do what I can by pointing people towards it but I unfortunately feel that Stieve is just talking about something he would like to do if possible. Maybe I’m wrong and maybe the sequel is being planned already. If it is all I have to say is hell yeah I’ll be there in line to see it!

Footloose Remake

Kevin Bacon?     The title of this post is enough said, but here’s more anyway. I found this over at worstpreviews. Apparently this is going to be a full blown musical starring Zac Efron (some teen heart throb apparently) taking over the Kevin Bacon role and directed by Kenny Ortega (Newsies, Hocus Pocus and a bunch of crap TV shows). This is beyond lame. I don’t want to write anymore.

What the Hell is Cloverfield? Some New Insight

Supposedly a giant foot created this explosion.     So this whole Cloverfield thing seems to have really taken the internet rumor mill by storm. A couple of mysterious websites with locks and codes (visit MoviePatron contributor, John Allison’s, little site he made up specifically to cover “Cloverfield” Update: The site is currently down during server switch) and another I found today with only a couple of pictures that you can move around the screen at http://www.1-18-08.com.

No one really knows anything at all about the movie except what’s in the trailer. It is probably a very good educated guess, though, that the film will NOT be titled Cloverfield. This is likely just a codename or working title. I have read some rumors of the possibility of this being a Godzilla remake and also some “Lost” rumors. I subscribe to the Godzilla theory as I swear I’ve heard quite a while ago that JJ Abrams was doing something like that. But it’s certainly possible this is a completely original and new project. If I’ve learned anything frm watching the greatest show ever made, JJ Abrams’ “Lost,” it is to expect the unexpected. I read somewhere that someone thought it might be the American remake of The Host, which I personally doubt.

Anyway - today, we get a tiny bit of insight from Trailerspy, who supposedly talked to one of the actors involved. Here’s some snippets of what this mysterious guest had to say…

“…an inside source said something about us being on 6th/Main st in downtown LA, true; However, we did not do anything on a fire escape 8 floors up. Everything was shot street level… and nothing on any fire escape.

On a take in the scene you all saw (the trailer) at + 30 seconds after impact movie time, just a couple of us were told by Mr Reeves that we are seeing a giant foot stomp down (this is at the point where the tower explodes).

Will the Military be firing? One of the Hummers in the downtown shoot had a 50cal mounted on the roof and the gunner was aiming up into the air down the block. He kept swiveling a bit here and there (as directed to do so), but if he is supposed to be firing, it will have to be CGI’d in later as not even blanks were being used. Not pertinent, but perhaps somewhere in the future of this, it will provide a better clue for us to solve this enigma.

Personally, I like that Ethan Haas thing…it kinda makes sense (to me at least) from some of the dialogue I’ve heard. On one of the nights, the #1 principle was injured during a take and had to be taken for stitches to his head (10 stitches, if anyone is counting), as the other principles “watched” the camcorder playback of the “monster”, some of the verbage they stated could lead to this ethan thing…at least in my head.”

To me this totally sounds like Godzilla. Especially with explosions and “giant feet” and military firing into the air. But hey, I guess it could be anything.

If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s our previous post with the embedded trailer for you to look at so you know what the hell everyone’s talking about.

Anyone have some ideas on what the hell is going on? All I know for sure is that JJ Abrams has struck movie marketing paydirt here.

Cloverfield Trailer - IT’S BACK!

This is only for the people who are not going to see Transformers anytime soon. If you are save this trailer for the theatre. Otherwise here is the trailer for the project codenamed Cloverfield by J.J. Abrahms. Oh and just so you know it the reason it is a crappy pirated version of it is that the trailer is not being released on the web. The movie doesn’t have a title yet. Truthfully this is really cool viral marketing that is going to pay off big time in the end. Hopefully the movie is actually good.

ADMIN NOTE: In other news, why would Paramount NOT want people to see this? Why are they bullying other sites to take it down? They can’t bully me. Go after Google you dickheads. They’re the ones hosting it. I’d LOVE to get sued by Paramount. A) they can’t. B) No publicity is bad publicity. C) I have nothing they could sue me for.
