I was writing up my DVD pick of the week for Day Watch (Movie Patron Review) when I discovered something that may be annoying depending on how they handle it. You see I have never read the original books so I can’t really comment as to whether they will have to take a huge deviation from the source material but about a month or so ago Twilight Watch was picked up by Fox. You might be thinking that oh good the Russian movie will be distributed by Fox. Nope, right now Twilight Watch is in production in the United States and it will be filmed in English. This really doesn’t bode well for the movie as part of the trilogy. It may end up being a really good movie by itself but I just don’t see how they are going to fit it into the world that they have created. Are they going to just drop all the main characters and focus on totally new ones? Will it have only American actors or will there be a combination of Russian and American? My hope is that they do not drop the main characters and that they go with a combination of nationalities.
I have to say that Twilight Watch is not a write off for me yet but I am definitely a bit worried about the series as a whole.

yeah, this is a rumor that I heard way back, even before Night Watch hit theaters here. Now it seems therumor is ture and I too think this does not bode well for the franchise. The reason the movie is so great is because it is devoid of all the Hollywood crap and just a fun, fantastic ride.
I can’t wait to stop by Best Buy at lunch today and pick up my copy of Day Watch. I’ll be VERY disappointed though, if the subs aren’t stylized as they were in the theater. I’ll let you know in tonight’s Cinecast.
Yeah, I’d heard about the American made 3rd film for a while.
As for the books, I have the first book at home figuring that I’d see just how much is left out of the film. Hopefully I can get to it at some point over the Christmas holidays when things slow down a little more.

The ending to Day Watch was sublime and perfectly cyclical, I’d really rather they didn’t bother with a third one…but I’ll tell you that I’ll be first in line when the thing comes out.
I can speak Russian, and I’ve been following the movies in the Russian Internet since Summer 2004. There is only Channel One Russia, and they are now and have been partnered with Fox throughout. Channel One Russia is run by producer Konstantin Ernst, and “Twilight Watch” was Fox’s idea and project from the beginning . They’re not picking up an abandoned Russian project. It never was a Russian project.
What did happen is that talk about the film simply faded away back in mid-2006. At that time, release was expected sometime in mid to late 2007. That’s old news from a year-and-a-half ago. There actually isn’t much new news in the Russian Internet. It seems that once Bekmambetov got involved in “Wanted” and “Ironiya sudby”, “Twilight Watch” simply went on hold.
