I‘m lucky enough to get to see the ONLY blockbuster film this summer that is a true original, (not a remake or a sequel) Ratatouille, two weeks early. Attached to that film apparently will be the newest Pixar idea called Wall-E. Apple has already released the trailer and although there isn’t much footage, the stuff that is there looks awesome. Johnny #5, meets Pixar? Works in my book; especially if Ratatouille is as fun as it looks. You can see the nice Quicktime version over at Apple.com. As soon as there are more versions available (YouTube), I’ll post them here asap. By the way, I really dig the sound of the robot’s voice at the end of this trailer. It’s my favorite part of the whole thing.

I guess I’m not the only one who got a huge Short Circuit vibe from that trailer (unrelated minutia - I actually saw SHORT CIRCUIT at a Drive-in theatre when it was released.)
Oh, and I just got back from Ratatouille. Wow. Pixar’s best film behind THE INCREDIBLES (incidentally both directed by Brad Bird). The companies most subtle and unforced film to day by a long shot. Wow those fantastic camera moves in the film. Great story and great telling of said story.
There is a huge “Sideways” vibe from the main character (Remy the rat) who is like an optimistic far less cynical version of Paul Giamatti’s character in that film.
Yes, this film was very very good.
Could this be the first big attempt to make animated films for adults? Kids (young kids) will miss most of the film, this is exactly the right direction pixar should be going.
Based on that response about Ratatouille, it should be an interesting Cinecast next week - I totally disagree. This movie lost all the charm and “funness” (haha) of the other films. Sure it looked FANTASTIC and had a neat idea for a story, but was it intentionally not very funny and completely lacking in the kids department? If so, then you are correct, they succeeded.
Why is the main character played by a star no one has heard of?
Another Pixar film that fails a bit for me because they focus way too much on humans (ala The Incredibles) and not enough on the fantasy world (Nemo, Monsters, Toys, etc…).
Wow do we ever disagree on this. Should be a fun cinecast. I’ll answer these questions and more. Perhaps some verbal pummelling…
I didn’t care for Ratatouille since my kids didn’t care for it. On the other hand, we’re going to the first showing of Wall-E Friday and we can’t wait. I haven’t seen or heard anything to make me wonder if the whole family will like it. Pixar’s back on track!
