Having just got home from one of the best films I’ve seen this year, Paris Je T’aime, I was looking about for another film full of short vignettes from a conglomeration of famous or big name directors and lo and behold I run across this story from Mad About Movies about all these great directors’ short films encompassed on one DVD. They aren’t all revolving around one theme, as is Paris, nevertheless they are short films frm some of the greatest directors of our generation.
The DVD is called Chacun son Cinéma and is available thorugh Amazon France and other international outlets on DVD for about $30. This seems to me to be a sure fire bet. If you’re going to spend some money, this seems to be the item to spend it on. I for one am in! Click the DVD cover below to get a close-up look at all the directors’ names.

This was the series of shorts made for Cannes’ 60th anniversay (trivia - Polanski was so miffed at the low quality of questions during the Q&A that he walked out).
I’m HUGELY looking forward to seeing these shorts.
FYI, The Toronto Film Festival made 1/2 a dozen, including the fantastic Guy Maddin “HEART OF THE WORLD” short back in 2000 to celebrate their 25th anniversary. I wish these were available, but I’ve got the best one of hte bunch (the Maddin one) which was included on the DVD of one of his later films…
BTW, the theme of the Chacun son Cinema is around the directors take on watching the movies in the theatre I believe, so definitely a common theme, at least a focused as something as vague as “Paris”
