Haha you mentioned me!
Here is my opinions of the films of the directors you mentioned (I will change the catagories slightly - Best, Worst, Favourite and possible most hated):
Roman Polanski
Sorry I am not familiar with his work AT ALL. I have only seen The Ninth Gate (yet to see The Pianist)
Ridley Scott
- - Best:
- - Favourite:
- - Worst: Hannibal
- - Biggest dislike: Blade Runner (In the minority I know…)
Oliver Stone
- - Best: JFK
- - Favourite: Natural Born Killers
- - Worst: Alexander
- - Biggest dislike: I didn’t DISLIKE this film per se it was just insignificant compared to it’s counterpart (Andrew YOU should know this)
Steven Spielberg
- - Best: A joint tie between Raiders of the Lost Ark and Saving Private Ryan
- - Favourite: By FAR Catch Me If You Can
- - Worst AND Biggest dislike: War of the Worlds
Stanley Kubrick

- - Best: From a pure directional point of view I give it to 2001: A Space Odyssey
- - Favourite: It pains me to NOT give one to A Clockwork Orange but I have got to give this to The Shining.
- - Worst: Don’t have one
- - Biggest dislike: Don’t have one
Sorry I FORGOT to mention my Best and Favourite of Ridley Scott:
Best - Alien by FAR
Favourite - Matchstick Men (VERY underrated)
Just finished listening to this podcast. At 2 1/2 hours I enjoyed it for the most part, but it stirred a lot of emotions in me hearing your comments on some of the movies I hold close to my heart and those I dislike intensely.
Watching movies is such a personal experience and I know I should respect other people’s point of view, but Kurt’s opinion of A.I. is complete and utter crap! The film is a masterpiece.
I have yet to discover the good aspects of A.I. I admire the ambition of mounting the project, but things fall apart so quickly into laughable plotting and undercooked thematic treatment that yes, the film causes rage upon viewing. Someday I will visit this again, and I dearly hope I see something more. For now, I’m just staying away to avoid an ulcer or damage to my theatre screen!
Cheers.
BTW - Triflic = Kurt.
As an FYI, Haley Joel Osment does not blink once throughout the entire film. Just a neat little bit of useless trivia.
Thanks for listening snowleopard.
and ross, you and I agree completely about Oliver Stone.
Andrew,
Haha I didn’t even need to name the movies and you got my drift! I just watched U93 again the other night. When I first saw it in the cinema/theatre I gave it a 4 out of 5. Then I watched it again and upped it half a star to 4.5 out of 5. And upon my third viewing I have decided - 5 out of 5!
Absolutely. Best film of 2006 easily. With Little Children a close second.
Great show. I didn’t even bother with the short cut and went right for the long extended version which, BTW, I loved.
I’m one of the few people in this world that actually enjoyed A.I. enough to buy it. I’ve only seen it twice and I think it deserves another viewing from me. I may have to review it.
