The summer blockbuster season starts Friday at 12 AM in most cities with Spiderman 3. I used to really look forward to the summer season for all the really cool big budget Hollywood movies. I am finding more and more that I am becoming dissatisfied with them. I want more from movies than big explosions. I want a good story with good acting. I know for a fact that I’ll see all the blockbusters this summer. I can’t help myself. I am trying to think if there are any of them that I am just dying to see and unfortunately I’d have to say no.
I thought Spiderman 3 had the best chance of telling a good story but from what I’ve heard I could be totally wrong but from everything I’ve heard is that it is too bogged down with too many characters. This is a shame since I thought the first two movies had actually well developed characters and stories. Are you really looking forward to it this Friday or are you somewhat apathetic like me.
Oh and yes I know its strange to say I’m apathetic when I’ll be there opening weekend but I’m a movie addict so I can live with being slightly hypocritical. ![]()

Are you my long lost twin brother? This is EXACTLY how I feel. I used to be so excited at the prospect of Summer Blockbuster season. Then something funny happened when I turned 30. I got wise. Of course I’ll be at all these movies opening day (some at midnight), but I don’t care all that much.
If I had to pick one that I am most looking forward to of the big ones, I’d say Transformers. But really, I’m much more interested in Jindabyne and other more obscure titles. Though 28 Weeks Later will rock.
lol… It must be the age thing.
I think it comes down to the simple fact of being someone who thinks about movies. When you start to actually analyze and really put energy into movies then you start to see what they really can be. For most people the best things movies will ever be is just a form of entertainment. I like to think there is something more to them than just being a way to spend 2 hours.
I don’t really consider 28 Weeks Later a blockbuster. I suppose it is but it doesn’t really feel that way.
I think I’m looking forward to Stardust most. I think Gaiman is way over rated but it still looks the most interesting of the big movies.
I don’t consider a BB either. At least it’s not in the top 10 most likely. It’s just the biggest one I’m actually really looking forward to.
I think we’re all brothers, because these are my thoughts exactly as well. While I’m still looking forward to Spider-Man on Friday, it’s not the same giddy, magical excitement that I had for the first two — and movies like Die Hard 4, Pirates 3 and so on, that I know I would have been dying to see only a few years ago, I’m indifferent towards.
I guess this is getting old!
We should start calling all the movie blogs “old guy movie blogs”.
