Indiana Jones 4 Inches Closer to Becoming a Reality

Indiana Jones 4 script approved - almost.

Let it be known that: George Lucas has approved the script for the new Indiana Jones movie. Considering his amazing script writing for Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, I wouldn’t be exceedingly happy about this, I’d be wanting it double checked a few times.

That just might be happening as there is one more person who has to approve it - is it any wonder it’s taken this long to make it this far? - Harrison Ford. Let’s hope he’s seen Revenge and won’t settle for a poor script. Mind you Spielberg has already approved it, so here’s hoping.

If he does okay it, the next hurdle is getting the film made. Spielberg has quite a busy schedule and it might be a while before anything starts to happen. That is unless Lucas films it and drops in a ton of CGI.

Rambo IV in the Works

Despite the news that Sylvester Stallone is going to be directing a movie on the great writer Edgar Allen Poe it’s pretty certain that the next step in the Rambo franchise is on.

According to Moviehole, filming for Rambo IV is set to begin in Bulgaria in January 2006 and move to India and finally the USA. They also have details of the storyline:

According to Stallone, the new plotline sees the character of Rambo as having “assimilated into the tapestry of America”, living with his family - including daughter - in relative peace for the past fifteen years but still working for the military, when work pressures force him to move his family to the American outback. The Navajo-Indian former Green Beret and his family are then subject to an attack by white-supremacists, and Rambo has to risk life-and-limb in rescuing his 10-year old daughter from being held hostage.

Stallone will be bringing in a new, younger actor for this movie and it definitely sounds like he’ll be handing over the baton for the lead.

Nu Image/ Millennium Films acquired the rights to the ‘Rambo’ film franchise, with their chairman, Avi Lerner, stating that Stallone is “one of the smartest guys I know.” Having persuaded Stallone to co-star with a younger actor in ‘Rambo IV’, Lerner is confident about the film’s future success. “It’s a franchise,” he says. “If No. 4 works, then you have a No. 5.”

     Well, that scares me.

“Don’t F— with the Babysitter!”

I don’t know why, but it seems Disney has rounded up some troops (Hilary Galanoy of “The Cable Guy” and Elizabeth Hackett)to remake the 80s film “Adventures in Babysitting.” It’s actually a pretty fun movie starring Elizabeth Shue, and I still sit down and watch it once in a while. I don’t know that I’ll see the new one if it for sure gets made, but I think if you’re going to remake an 80s movie, this would be one of the better ones (and easier ones) to do. The original 1987 version was directed by Chris Columbus (Home Alone and Harry Potter). Anyway, just a heads up hat they’re remaking a childhood favorite of mine, and I’ll be interested to see who they cast in the leading roles.

I Love Michael Madsen

Okay, you guys gotta check out this site. It is a production company called American World Pictures. Talk about cheese! But, there’s a couple that caught my eye. There’s this one called Chasing Ghosts. So in truth, this movie doesn’t actually look that good, but c’mon; it stars Madsen along side of Gary Busey. Throw in a some Shannyn Sossamon with some Meatloaf and you’ve got some fun. Check out the trailer here. Or, if you prefer, here is the official site. Although the trailer is not there, they claim an updated version of the trailer is coming soon, and they have some other goodies to look at.

Tarantino + Rodriguez = Hell Yes!

Pulp Fiction, From Dusk Til Dawn, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, Desperado. Add all of these up and you get cool movies like Sin City. Now it seems that Mr. Tarantino and Mr. Rodriguez are teaming up again…

Reuters is reporting that Bob and Harvey Weinstein’s new studio is putting the pair together again for a new project. The concept is an interesting one (not completely original… but an interesting one nonetheless). This is what’s going on:

Tarantino and Rodriguez will each write and direct a 60-minute horror film, and the two films will be packaged under the title “Grind House,” which is planned for a spring 2006 release through the Weinstein Co.

It also will include its own trailers, bonus materials and added extras from other filmmakers that will be packaged together between the two horror flicks in a tribute to the old, big-city movie houses like those on New York’s 42nd Street that earned the moniker grindhouses for programing genre pictures back to back.

  Sounds promising…

The Dark Crystal part II

(5/15/05) - To celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Jim Henson company, the producers have decided to pay tribute by creating a sequel to one of the best children’s fantasy films of all time: “The Dark Crystal.” Entitled “The Power of the Dark Crystal,” it is written by the same writer of the first film and episodes of The Muppet Show, David Odell.

Apparently, it will feature mostly live animitronic creatures, but also some CGI creatures and effect combined. I think this will be a real treat. But you’ll have to wait a while, it isn’t slated for release until sometime early in ‘07.

The Return of David Lynch

(5/15/05) - David Lynch is making a new movie with StudioCanal. In fact, he’s already been shooting it under the radar for two years. Titled “INLAND EMPIRE,” it stars Laura Dern, along with Justin Theroux, Harry Dean Stanton, Jeremy Irons and a host of others Lynch won’t specify. In fact, there’s still very little Lynch is comfortable to reveal about the movie.

“It’s about a woman in trouble, and it’s a mystery, and that’s about all I want to say about it.”

The title refers to the bleak residential area on the edge of the desert near L.A. — in the complete opposite direction of the tony locale of his last movie “Mulholland Drive.”

Lynch has shot much of this
latest film in Poland with local actors, after making friends with the organizers of the Camerimage festival in Lodz. He’s now back shooting in and around Los Angeles.
Even at this relatively advanced stage of production, Lynch is hesitant about when it will be finished. But it’s understood that StudioCanal is aiming for a world premiere at Cannes next year. What Lynch will reveal, is the fact that he’s shooting the movie on digital video:

“I started working in DV for my Web site, and I fell in love with the medium. It’s unbelievable, the freedom and the incredible different possibilities it affords, in shooting and in post-production. For me, there’s no way back to film. I’m done with it. I love abstraction. Film is a beautiful medium, but it’s very slow and you don’t get a chance to try a lot of different things. With DV, you get those chances. And in post-production, if you can think it, you can do it.”

Sounds a lot like these two other directors I know; Mr. Lucas & Mr. Spielberg. You heard of ‘em?

Aeon Flux

(5/14/05) - Remember that anime show on MTV back in the day called Aeon Flux? It took place in the future and was about this Matrix-esque type chick who jumped around and killed lots of people in the evil corporation. I never really got a grasp of wht the hell was going on, but I’d like to rent the DVDs one day and check out the whole story. It was generally pretty cool. Anyway, a live action version has been slated for September of this year starring Charlize Theron in the title role and directed by Karyn Kusama (Girlfight).

The website looks damn cool, and I’m sure the hype will start to generate into a buzz towards the end of the summer. But for now, just check out the site and stop back often for more info.

Episode III DVD in Time for Chritmas!

(5/12/05) - It sounds like the “Revenge of the Sith” DVD will be on store shelves probably in late November. Apparently Burger King is running a Star Wars promotion from Nov. 11 through Dec. 16 to coincide with a DVD release. The promotion consists of 5 watches you can buy for $1.99 a piece and 16 new toys. This could mean a release date of Tuesday, Nov. 15th! You can see a copy of the promotional flyer here.

And I found this great story at imdb news. According to MTV, George Lucas has indicated that he expects the Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith DVD to be released at Christmas time this year. Lucas made the comment in an interview with MTV.com, which reported that the DVD will offer five or six deleted scenes. Rick McCallum, a producer of the three sequels, told the website:

“They were great scenes, but they just had nothing to do with getting straight and cutting to the chase of the story. They were more plot-orientated and more setting up of Coruscant, more setting up of the war and kind of understanding where all the politics were.”

Sounds like not so much battle or action scenes, but just storyline advancement and dialogue. OK! Here are some shots of what the DVD will look most likely look like. I think it’s gonna be a great Christmas!
